Peter Campbell preselected as Greens candidate for Box Hill

I have been preselected as the Greens candidate for the Box Hill electorate in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia for the 2006 Victorian State election.

I will post news, updates and media releases about the campaign on this blog.

I have lived in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs all my life. I currently work as an IT consultant and am a keen cyclist.

My outdoors interests of bushwalking, climbing, surfing and skiing have led me to campaigning on conservation and sustainability issues for over 20 years, including the protection of native forest and wilderness areas, and the promotion of public transport and renewable energy.

We have renovated our Surrey Hills house to be environmentally friendly and are now exporting electricity to the grid with twenty solar panels, and we are self sufficient for water.

I believe that social justice issues such as education, health and employment are intrinsically linked to environmental issues.

If elected I will serve you, the members of my electorate, in a way that is fair, credible, honest and accountable, working for what is best for the people of Box Hill and for future generations.

Your Green vote will count.

Local issues for Box Hill include

Health – Improve mental and dental health services and decrease waiting lists for Box Hill hospital.

Education – revitalise public education and create more childcare places.

Public transport – we need fast, frequent and well-connected public transport to provide a real alternative to the car.

Environment – protect our water catchments and endangered animals from logging and take real action on climate change.

Cycling – we need fast, convenient and safe bicycle paths for local and commuter use to reduce congestions on our roads.

Level crossings – replace level crossings at Union and Middleborough roads to improve safety and decrease traffic congestion.
