Labor flirts with the right wing Family First party and bending democracy

The ALP is considering doing another preference deal with the Christian-right Family First party at the upcoming State election in an attempt to kill off the Greens.

Anyone you know planning to vote for the ALP (or any other party that sends preferences to Family First) needs to know that their vote will assist Labor to retain control of parliament.

When minor parties on less than 2% of the primary vote scoop up preferences and do background deals with either Labor or the Liberals, they can get elected - which is not a good representative outcome for democracy.

In the 2004 federal election, Labor put Stephen Fielding in the Senate under almost identical circumstances, giving John Howard effective control of the Senate too! Stephen Fielding has voted with the Howard Government to remove cross media ownership laws - which has opened the flood gates for more consolitation by the media barons and less diversity. This is a not a good outcome for freedom of speech in Australia.

Make sure you know where your vote is going. Vote below the line or better still vote 1 for the Greens.

Please tell your friends and associates about this alarming possibility.
